4d6droplowest is a dice-rolling method used to generate character ability scores in tabletop role-playing games. It involves rolling four six-sided dice (4d6), dropping the lowest die, and summing the remaining three. The resulting value ranges from 3 to 18, with most results clustering in the mid to high range. Because the lowest die is removed, the distribution favors higher totals compared with rolling three dice.

Notation and variants: The method is commonly written as 4d6dl (drop lowest) or 4d6kh3 (keep highest 3); both express the same process of summing the three highest dice. Some groups use alternative rules, such as rerolling certain results before applying the drop or using different keep/drop configurations.

Usage: In many editions of Dungeons & Dragons, the standard practice is to roll 4d6 drop the lowest for each of six ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma) and then assign the results as desired.
