12volt is an American electro-industrial band that originated in Berkeley, California, in 1989. The original lineup consisted of vocalist and programmer Jay Baumgardner, guitarist and producer Chris Brown, multi‑instrumentalist Kyle Chapman, and drummer Matthew Brown. Known for blending aggressive electronic textures with heavy guitar riffs, the group quickly established a reputation for intense, dance‑floor‐ready production that drew comparisons to pioneers such as Ministry and Nine Inch Nails.

The band released its debut studio album, Pride, in 1993, which established a dedicated following within the alternative metal community. Over the next decade 12volt produced a series of critically acclaimed albums including Revolutions (1998), Stigma (2003), and Mondo (2005). Their 2006 release, South of Heaven, showcased a more polished sound, incorporating industrial rock and melodic elements that broadened their audience.
