Öppenloopförstärkning, often translated as open-loop gain, refers to the amplification provided by an electronic circuit when it is not configured with any feedback. In simple terms, it is the inherent amplification factor of the amplifier itself before any signal is intentionally fed back to its input. This is a fundamental parameter in the design and analysis of amplifiers, particularly operational amplifiers (op-amps).

The value of open-loop gain is typically very high in devices like op-amps, often in the range of tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands or even millions. This high gain is crucial for achieving precise amplification and stable operation when negative feedback is applied. Without negative feedback, an amplifier operating in open-loop mode is generally not practical for most applications due to its extreme sensitivity to input signals and potential for instability.

When negative feedback is employed, the overall gain of the circuit is significantly reduced from its open-loop value. However, this reduction in gain comes with substantial benefits, including increased bandwidth, improved linearity, and reduced distortion.
