Élhelyhozzáférés is a concept in landscape ecology that describes the ease with which an organism can reach suitable living places (habitats) within a landscape. It combines structural connectivity—the presence of routes, corridors, and stepping-stones—with functional connectivity—the ability of the species to use those routes given its movement capacity, behavior, and life history. Barriers such as roads, urban areas, intensive agriculture, fences, and water bodies can reduce élhelyhozzáférés, while habitat corridors, stepping-stones, and protected areas can enhance it.

The level of élhelyhozzáférés depends on species traits (dispersal distance, flight capability, migratory behavior), landscape configuration (patch size and isolation, matrix permeability), and external factors (climate change, land-use change). Poor access to habitats can lead to population fragmentation, reduced gene flow, and higher extinction risk for sensitive species.

Assessment methods include GIS-based connectivity models, such as least-cost path analysis and circuit theory, as well as graph-theoretical metrics and habitat suitability or species distribution models. Empirical data from telemetry, mark-recapture studies, or genetic analyses are often used to validate model results. Indicators commonly examined are the fraction of habitat patches reachable from core populations, average dispersal distance, and network centrality measures.

Applications of élhelyhozzáférés inform conservation planning and land-use decision-making. They support the design of ecological networks, prioritization of habitat corridors and crossings (for roads or railways), and mitigation of infrastructure impacts to maintain or restore functional connectivity in ecosystems.
