Common use cases: automated climate control (thermostats, radiator valves), lighting scenes, smart locks and cameras for security, smart plugs for energy management, and integration with entertainment systems or appliances.

Benefits: improved comfort, energy savings, safety, and the ability to monitor and control a home remotely or via automation. They can also support aging in place and independent living.

Challenges: privacy and security risks from connected devices, data collection, vendor lock-in, interoperability gaps, upfront costs, and reliance on cloud services that may affect operation during outages.
