Ülehäälestust
Ülehäälestust, a Finnish term, translates to "over-tuning" or "excessive tuning." It refers to a situation where a musical instrument, particularly string instruments, is tuned so high that the tension on the strings becomes excessive. This can lead to several undesirable consequences. The strings may become prone to breaking, especially under normal playing conditions or if subjected to even slight additional stress. Furthermore, the extreme tension can negatively impact the instrument's structural integrity. The soundpost, bridge, and other internal or external components can be subjected to undue pressure, potentially causing warping, cracking, or other damage over time. In some cases, the instrument may become unplayable or its tonal quality can be severely compromised, producing a thin or strained sound.
The practice of ülehäälestust is generally discouraged by musicians and instrument makers. While a slight increase
