Återinfiltrationsteknik, often translated as "recharge technique" or "groundwater recharge," refers to methods used to intentionally replenish groundwater aquifers. This process mimics natural groundwater recharge by allowing surface water to infiltrate into the ground and reach the water table. The primary goals of artificial recharge are to augment depleted groundwater supplies, improve groundwater quality, and manage groundwater resources sustainably.

Various techniques exist for implementing artificial recharge. Infiltration basins, also known as recharge basins or spreading grounds, are large, shallow ponds where water is spread over a permeable surface. This allows water to seep into the soil and percolate down to the aquifer. Another method involves injection wells, where water is pumped directly into the aquifer through specially designed wells. This is often used in areas where surface infiltration is not feasible or when higher recharge rates are desired. Other methods include permeable pavements, which allow rainwater to infiltrate through the pavement surface, and subsurface dams, which are underground structures designed to impede the natural groundwater flow and create a storage zone.

The water used for artificial recharge can come from various sources, including treated wastewater, stormwater runoff, or surplus surface water during periods of high flow. Careful consideration is given to the quality of the recharge water to prevent contamination of the aquifer. Monitoring of water levels and quality is crucial to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the recharge operation.
