The firm focused on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), along with complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs) and system-on-chip (SoC) solutions. Xilinx played a central role in the development and popularization of reconfigurable computing, serving industries such as telecommunications, data centers, automotive, industrial, and aerospace.

Product portfolio and technology evolved to cover a range of programmable silicon. The company offered FPGA families tailored to different performance and power profiles, including Spartan (entry-level), Virtex (high-end), Kintex (mid-range), and Artix (low-power). It also produced Zynq products that combine FPGA fabric with ARM-based processing systems, and the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC family for heterogeneous computing. Following the integration, Xilinx operates as a division of AMD, and the XLNX stock ticker was retired.
