Xat is a term with multiple notable meanings. The most widely known is xat.com, a web-based chat service that enables users to create and join chat rooms, chat in real time, and customize room appearance and widgets. Launched in the early 2000s, xat provides built-in features such as profiles, emoticons, moderation tools, and a system of virtual currencies (often referred to as xats and gems) used to purchase room enhancements and services. The acronym XAT refers to the Xavier Aptitude Test, a national-level entrance examination in India for management education. Conducted annually by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of the XAT Consortium, the test is accepted by a large number of management institutes. The examination typically tests Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and Decision Making, and may include General Knowledge and an Essay component depending on the year. Performance on XAT is used by participating institutes for shortlisting candidates for further selection rounds, such as Group Discussion and Personal Interview, in addition to overall merit ranking.
