Wyrycie, in Polish, denotes removal or uprooting of a body part, with the term most often referring to the extraction of a tooth (wyrycie zęba). The verb wyryć means to pull out or tear up. In medical contexts the formal term is ekstrakcja zęba, while wyrycie is commonly used in everyday language by patients and professionals alike.

In dentistry, tooth extraction is performed when a tooth is beyond repair or causes problems. Indications include severe decay, fracture, infection, or irreversible pulpitis, as well as crowding or an impacted tooth that interferes with orthodontic treatment. Extractions are categorized as simple (non-surgical) and surgical. Simple extractions are carried out on a tooth visible in the mouth and loosened with dental elevators and removed with forceps. Surgical extractions involve incision into the gum and, if necessary, removal of bone or portion of the tooth crown for a tooth that is broken or not fully erupted; this is usually performed by an oral surgeon.
