Waterschapsplanning is the planning process used by the Dutch waterschappen (water boards) to organize and execute long-term and annual activities in the areas they manage. The planning covers flood risk management and dike safety, water level and drainage control, water quality and sustainability of groundwater, and the operation and maintenance of related infrastructure such as pumping stations, sluices, and small-scale barriers. The objective is to protect residents, businesses, and agricultural land from flooding, ensure safe water levels for land use, and maintain adequate water quality.
