Warpcapable is an adjective used in science fiction to describe vessels, devices, or technologies able to perform warp travel—faster-than-light movement achieved by distorting or bypassing conventional space-time constraints. The term is closely associated with warp drive concepts popularized in Star Trek, where ships equipped with warp capability can enter subspace to reach velocities beyond light speed. In general usage, a vessel is described as warpcapable when its propulsion system and power management can sustain a stable warp field and a navigable subspace corridor.

In-universe, warpcapability depends on specialized reactors, propulsion modules, and field emitters designed to generate and maintain a warp field. A fully warpcapable craft typically includes a warp core or equivalent power source, warp nacelles or analogous emitters, and control systems that balance energy, hull integrity, and navigation. Experimental or provisional warpcapability may exist in earlier prototypes or emergency configurations, often with limited speed, range, or safety margins.

Limitations and fictional constraints vary by setting. Warp travel can be restricted by energy reserves, stellar radiation, gravity wells, or subspace anomalies, and may require careful route planning and star-system permissions in-universe. Some stories treat warp as continuous, others as discrete speed steps with potential hazards at high ranks.
