They occur on many continents in coastal lowlands and low-elevation interiors, and can also appear at high elevations where the climate remains warm relative to latitude.

Patterns of precipitation in warm climates vary widely. Tropical climates often feature high or year-round rainfall, with ecosystems such as rainforests. Other warm areas are arid or semi-arid, with hot, dry seasons. Warm temperate zones may have hot summers and mild winters. Broadly, warmth interacts with moisture to shape plant communities and land use.

Impacts include specific agricultural practices suitable for year-round growth or seasonally favorable windows, such as sugarcane, rice, citrus, and other tropical crops. Biodiversity tends to be high in wet warm regions, while arid warm areas support drought-tolerant flora. Human settlements in warm zones often require cooling, water management, and flood or drought resilience.

In the context of climate change, warm climates may experience more extreme heat events and changes in precipitation patterns. This can shift biomes toward higher latitudes, alter crop suitability, and increase stress on water resources and health systems. Adaptation measures include improved building design, heat-monitored infrastructure, and sustainable water management.
