Vízelvonás, also known as dehydration, is a condition that occurs when the body loses more fluid than it takes in, leading to a deficit of water in the body's tissues. This imbalance can disrupt normal bodily functions and, if severe, can be life-threatening.

Causes of vízelvonás are varied and can include insufficient fluid intake, excessive fluid loss due to vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or intense physical activity in hot weather. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes insipidus, and medications, like diuretics, can also contribute to dehydration.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe. Mild dehydration may manifest as thirst, dry mouth, reduced urine output, and fatigue. As dehydration progresses, symptoms can include dizziness, confusion, sunken eyes, rapid heartbeat, and in critical cases, unconsciousness. Infants and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to dehydration due to their reduced ability to regulate body fluids.

Treatment for vízelvonás involves rehydration, which can be achieved by drinking water or electrolyte-rich fluids. In more severe cases, intravenous fluids may be necessary. Prevention is key and involves ensuring adequate fluid intake, especially during periods of increased risk like illness or strenuous exercise. Monitoring urine color can also be an indicator of hydration levels, with pale yellow urine generally signifying good hydration.
