Våbenskjold is the shield that forms the central element of a coat of arms in Danish, Norwegian, and related Nordic heraldic usage. The term literally means “shield of arms,” and in practice våbenskjold refers to the surface on which charges (emblems such as animals, symbols, or devices) are displayed to identify a family, person, city, or organization.
