väggreglar

Väggreglar are vertical wooden studs that form the structural skeleton of a timber-framed wall. They are typically used in load-bearing exterior walls as well as in interior partition walls. The studs are usually made from softwoods such as pine (furu) or spruce (gran) and are sized to the wall height and load requirements. Common cross-sections for väggreglar range from about 45x95 mm to 45x120 mm, though dimensions can vary with local building codes and climate.

Väggreglar are installed with one stud placed at regular intervals, commonly about 0.6 meters (60 cm) on center, though spacing can differ (for example 0.4–0.7 meters) depending on the wall’s purpose and the chosen structural system. They are anchored to a sill plate at the bottom and a top plate at the ceiling or roof, forming a rigid frame. Openings for doors and windows are created by additional framing elements such as headers and trimmers to maintain the wall’s strength around those features. The space between studs is used for insulation and for routing electrical wiring and plumbing.

During construction, the frame is typically sheathed on the exterior with plywood or OSB and protected by a weather barrier, with interior finishing such as drywall or paneling applied afterward. Proper moisture control, ventilation, and fire-resistance considerations are important, and the assembly must meet local building regulations (for example, Sweden’s Boverket BBR). Väggreglar thus play a central role in the structural integrity, thermal performance, and finish quality of timber-walled buildings.
