A voimasensori, or force sensor in English, is a transducer that converts mechanical force into an electrical signal. This conversion allows for the measurement of applied forces. These sensors are crucial components in a wide range of applications where understanding and quantifying force is essential.

The working principle of a force sensor typically involves a strain gauge. When a force is applied to the sensor, it deforms a precisely engineered structure. This deformation stretches or compresses the strain gauge elements attached to the structure. As the strain gauge material changes its dimensions, its electrical resistance also changes. This change in resistance can then be measured and calibrated to represent the magnitude of the applied force.
