vevslinje

Vevslinje is the production line in a textile mill dedicated to weaving fabric. It encompasses the setup of looms and related equipment through which warp yarns are interlaced with weft yarns to produce woven textiles. The term is used in Norwegian textile industry and elsewhere to describe a contiguous manufacturing sequence rather than a single loom.

Within a vevslinje, pre-weaving processes such as warping and sizing prepare the warp for the loom. The loom forms the shed, inserts the weft, and advances the fabric through take-up. Modern lines use shuttle-less looms employing rapier, air-jet, or water-jet weft insertion, and may include multiple looms connected to automated yarn supply, fabric inspection, and waste-removal systems.

Vevslinjer vary by fabric end-use and construction: plain weave, twill, satin, and complex dobby or Jacquard patterns; and by fiber material such as cotton, polyester, or blends. The line's speed is measured in meters or picks per minute, and quality is monitored by inline sensors and defect detection systems. Automation and data integration enable monitoring of tension, fabric density, and production downtime.

Industrial context: In large mills, a vevslinje may comprise many parallel looms with centralized control. In smaller facilities, a single loom can be considered a line. Efficiency depends on loom performance, warp and weft preparation, maintenance, and energy usage, with increasing emphasis on automation and integration in modern Industry 4.0 settings.
