Valgusläbivust is a term that appears in some Swedish-speaking medical texts to describe a lateral protrusion or prominence associated with valgus deformity of a limb. The word combines valgus, indicating outward angulation of the distal segment relative to the proximal limb, with a description of a visible lateral contour at the joint. It is not a formal term in international anatomical nomenclature, but it is used by clinicians to convey the clinical or radiographic appearance of a limb that is angulated outward and shows a lateral protrusion at the knee, ankle, or hip.

Causes of valgus-related protrusion include congenital genu valgum, malalignment after fractures, growth disturbances, and degenerative joint disease that exaggerates the lateral contour. Clinically, patients may report a palpable lateral bump or fullness, possible tenderness, altered gait, and functional limitations related to the alignment abnormality.

Diagnosis relies on a combination of physical examination and imaging. Clinicians assess overall limb alignment and perform radiographic studies, such as standing long-leg views, to measure the mechanical axis and valgus angle. Magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography may be used to evaluate soft tissue structures or complex bony anatomy when needed.

Management depends on severity, symptoms, and underlying cause. Nonoperative strategies include physical therapy, weight management, and bracing or activity modification. When needed, surgical options aim to correct alignment, such as osteotomies to realign the limb or joint replacement in the setting of advanced arthritis. Prognosis is generally favorable when the deformity is addressed appropriately, though progression risks may persist if the underlying condition advances.
