Vakionopeussäädin, known in English as cruise control, is a system that automatically controls the speed of a vehicle at a preset level. It allows the driver to maintain a constant speed without continuously operating the accelerator pedal. This can enhance driving comfort, especially on long journeys, and potentially improve fuel efficiency by preventing unnecessary acceleration and deceleration.

The system typically consists of a control unit, speed sensors, and actuators that can control the throttle or fuel injection. When engaged, the driver sets the desired speed. The control unit then monitors the vehicle's speed using sensors and makes adjustments to the engine's power output to maintain that set speed, even when encountering inclines or declines. Early systems were purely mechanical, while modern systems are electronic and often integrated with other vehicle safety and driver assistance features.

Disengaging the cruise control is usually achieved by pressing the brake pedal, the clutch pedal (in manual transmissions), or by activating a specific "cancel" button. Many modern systems also offer features like adaptive cruise control (ACC), which uses radar or cameras to detect vehicles ahead and adjust the set speed to maintain a safe following distance. This adds another layer of convenience and safety to the driving experience.
