Täitautien, often translated as "louse-borne diseases," refers to a group of infectious diseases transmitted by lice. The primary vectors for these diseases are body lice (Pediculus humanus humanus) and, to a lesser extent, head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) and pubic lice (Pthirus pubis). While head and pubic lice are primarily nuisances causing itching, body lice, which inhabit clothing and come into contact with the skin, are capable of transmitting pathogens when they feed on blood.
