Tárcsafékekkel, often simply referred to as disc brakes, are a type of braking system used in vehicles and bicycles. They consist of a disc rotor, typically made of cast iron or steel, which is attached to the wheel hub. A caliper, containing brake pads, straddles the rotor. When the brake pedal or lever is actuated, hydraulic pressure (or mechanical force in some cable-actuated systems) forces the brake pads to clamp onto the rotating disc. This friction generates the force needed to slow down or stop the vehicle. The heat generated by this friction is then dissipated into the surrounding air.

Disc brakes offer several advantages over older drum brake systems, including superior stopping power, especially in wet conditions, and better heat dissipation, which reduces the risk of brake fade. They are also generally easier to maintain and inspect. The design allows for more consistent performance and a more direct feel for the driver or rider. Modern vehicles commonly employ disc brakes on all four wheels, although some may still use drum brakes on the rear axle for cost-effectiveness. Bicycle disc brakes have become increasingly popular, offering significant improvements in braking performance, particularly for mountain bikes and road bikes ridden in adverse weather.
