In practice, tunneloitua refers to a modular shield-based tunneling method in which a tunneling shield advances in short, controlled increments. After each advance, pre-fabricated lining segments are installed and grouted, while ground treatment such as shotcrete application, rock bolts, and grout injections is performed to restore stability and control settlement.
