A trykmåler is a device for measuring the pressure of liquids or gases. It is widely used in engineering, manufacturing, and consumer equipment to monitor safety and performance. A typical trykmåler consists of a sensing element, a transmission mechanism, and a display or output. The sensing element—commonly a Bourdon tube, a flexible diaphragm, or a bellows—deforms in response to pressure. This movement is translated into a readable value by a mechanical linkage that drives a dial pointer or by electronic sensors that feed a digital readout.

Pressure gauges can measure absolute pressure relative to a perfect vacuum, gauge pressure relative to atmospheric pressure, or differential pressure between two points. They are available in various ranges and in different constructions, including inline process gauges, panel-mounted gauges, and portable hand-held devices such as tire pressure gauges. Common units are bar and kilopascals (kPa) in metric systems, and pounds per square inch (psi) in others.

Calibration and accuracy are important for reliable readings. Many gauges are tested against traceable standards and have accuracy classes (for example ±1% of full scale). Maintenance involves protecting the device from overpressure, vibration, and temperature effects, and ensuring proper seals and connections.

In addition to traditional mechanical gauges, pressure transducers and digital sensors are used in modern systems, offering remote readout and data logging. The term trykmåler is often used in Norwegian and Danish contexts as a general reference to pressure measuring instruments.
