Panelmounted, or panel-mounted, describes equipment designed to be mounted through a front panel or enclosure so that the device’s front face is flush with or slightly proud of the panel surface. The rear portion of the device is installed behind the panel, with electrical connections and wiring confined to the enclosure interior. This mounting arrangement is common for user interface components and for components that are intended to be accessed from the outside of a control panel.

Construction and mounting typically involve a front bezel or mounting flange that sits against the panel, and one or more fasteners or locking rings that hold the device in place. The panel cutout or slightly oversized opening provides a stable mounting plane and can include gaskets or seals to improve ingress protection. Panelmounted devices are available in a wide range of form factors, from small indicators and pushbuttons to larger meters, switches, connectors, and power supplies. They are designed to accept standard front-face configurations and are wired from behind the panel.

Common examples include pushbutton and indicator switches, panel meters, front-access connectors, relays, and small controllers. The panelmounted design is favored in industrial automation, instrumentation, and aerospace for its compact appearance and ease of front access, though it requires careful panel design to ensure adequate clearance, cooling, and sealing.

Installation considerations include selecting an appropriate panel cutout, securing hardware, ensuring proper insulation and strain relief for wiring, and accounting for environmental protection ratings such as IP codes. Panelmounted devices are typically specified by front-face size, mounting style, and environmental protection requirements.
