Traumatsein is a protein proposed to participate in cellular and tissue responses to traumatic injury. First described in studies examining mechanotransduction and inflammatory signaling in model systems, traumatsein is posited to act at the interface of mechanical stress sensing and downstream gene regulation.

In terms of structure and localization, traumatsein is described as a soluble cytosolic protein that can form multimers. It is detected across multiple tissues, with notable expression in neural, muscular, and connective tissues following injury. The protein is predicted to contain motifs that facilitate interactions with cytoskeletal elements and signaling partners, positioning it to influence structural remodeling and signal propagation after mechanical disruption.

The proposed function of traumatsein centers on mechanotransduction. Upon mechanical strain, signaling cascades such as calcium influx and kinase activation are thought to promote traumatsein activity. Activated traumatsein is said to interact with cytoskeletal regulators and inflammatory pathways, contributing to changes in gene expression, cell survival decisions, and tissue remodeling.
