Transhumeralinen is a term used in Finnish medical language to describe things related to the transhumeral level of the upper limb, most often in reference to above-elbow amputation and its prosthetic devices. The English equivalent is transhumeral.

In anatomy, transhumeral refers to the portion of the arm between the shoulder and the elbow. A transhumeral amputation removes part of the upper limb above the elbow, leaving a residual limb that prosthetic care aims to fit and optimize.

Transhumeral prostheses include an elbow joint and a terminal device such as a hand or hook. Control methods commonly use a body-powered harness with cables, or myoelectric signals from residual muscles. Modern devices may offer powered elbow actuation, multi-articulating hands, and advanced control schemes such as pattern recognition or targeted muscle reinnervation.

Rehabilitation and fitting are integral to outcomes. After amputation, wound healing, stump shaping, and skin care are essential, followed by prosthetic fitting, training in function, and gradual activity progression. Potential complications include phantom limb pain, neuroma formation, infection, and skin irritation under the socket.

Etymology: The term derives from trans- (across or beyond) and humerus (the upper arm bone), with the Finnish adjectival suffix -inen forming an adjective.
