Dry fogging, or torrfogning, is a method used in pest control and sanitation that disperses extremely fine droplets of a chemical into enclosed spaces. The droplets are typically smaller than 10 micrometers, allowing them to remain suspended in air and to diffuse into cracks, voids, upholstery, and porous materials without producing significant surface moisture.

The technique is used for disinfection, mold remediation, odor control, and pest management (for example bed bugs, fleas, and mites). It is commonly applied in hospitals, hotels, residential buildings, warehouses, ships, aircraft, and other facilities where thorough coverage is required. Application is carried out with specialized fogging equipment; foggers may be categorized as dry foggers or thermal foggers, depending on whether they rely on heat. The targeted space is usually sealed or controlled, the fog is released for a defined dwell time, and then the area is ventilated before re-entry. The chemical products used vary and may include disinfectants, antimicrobial agents, or insecticides, selected according to the target organism and safety considerations.

Safety and regulation: Operators must be trained and follow product labels and local regulations. Because dry fog products can pose inhalation or chemical exposure risks, the area must be vacated during application and for a suitable post-application interval. Material compatibility and environmental impact should be considered.

Torrfogning provides deep reach into hidden spaces with minimal surface wetting, but it is a specialized procedure that should be performed by qualified professionals.
