Torkararmar, or windshield wiper arms, are components of a motor vehicle’s wiper system. They transmit motion from the wiper motor to the wiper blade, enabling the blade to sweep across the windshield to remove rain, snow, and debris. The arm is mounted at the base of the windshield and holds the blade at its end, applying pressure to maintain contact with the glass.

A typical torkararm consists of a rigid arm made of metal or a high‑strength composite, connected to the wiper blade by a hinge or connector. The arm is driven by a wiper motor through a linkage or crank mechanism, converting the motor’s rotation into a sweeping arc. The range of motion and the park position are determined by the linkage geometry and mounting location. Some vehicles use dual arms for the driver and passenger sides; rear-window wiper arms are usually shorter and may operate with a separate mechanism.

Materials and maintenance: Arms are commonly steel, aluminum, or reinforced plastic; blades are rubber or silicone with a supporting frame. Over time, blades wear and may streak; misalignment or a bent arm reduces wiping efficiency. The spring at the base maintains blade pressure; if the arm is damaged or the mounting loosens, replacement is advised.

Replacement and service: When replacing, choose a compatible length and attachment standard, disconnect the arm from the mounting, and install the new arm so the blade parks in its proper position. After installation, test operation at low and high speeds and in intermittent mode.
