Tokamaker is a nonstandard term used primarily in informal or fictional contexts to describe a person or organization involved in the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of tokamaks. A tokamak is a toroidal magnetic confinement fusion device intended to confine hot plasma long enough for fusion reactions, using a combination of toroidal and poloidal magnetic fields.

The word blends tokamak and maker. It is not widely used in formal scientific literature; professionals working with tokamaks are usually described as fusion engineers, plasma physicists, technicians, or tokamak operators.

Roles commonly associated with a tokamaker can include designing and fabricating components such as vacuum vessels and magnetic coils, implementing heating and current-drive systems, installing diagnostics, and developing control software. The work also involves commissioning, operating experiments, analyzing data, and maintaining safety systems related to high voltages, strong magnetic fields, cryogenics, and, in deuterium–tritium devices, tritium handling.

In practice the term appears mainly in hobbyist or speculative writing and is not a standard job title in research institutions. When used, it generally conveys a broad, hands-on involvement with tokamak devices rather than a fixed organizational role. Major real-world tokamak efforts include the ITER project and existing facilities such as JET and DIII-D.
