Tipunõudluse refers to a phenomenon in economics and consumer behavior where demand for a particular good or service significantly increases as its price rises, rather than decreases. This behavior is contrary to the typical law of demand, which states that as prices increase, demand usually falls. Tipunõudluse is often observed in specific situations and for particular types of products.

One of the most commonly cited examples of tipunõudluse is the Veblen good. Veblen goods are luxury items where their high price is part of their appeal. Consumers purchase these goods not only for their utility but also as a status symbol, to display wealth and social standing. As the price of a Veblen good increases, it becomes even more exclusive and desirable, leading to higher demand. Examples include designer handbags, luxury cars, and high-end jewelry.

Another related concept is the Giffen good, although these are much rarer and typically arise in situations of extreme poverty where a good constitutes a large portion of a consumer's diet. For Giffen goods, as the price rises, consumers may be forced to substitute away from more expensive goods and towards the cheaper staple, thus increasing demand for the now more expensive staple.

Tipunõudluse is not a widespread market phenomenon and is generally limited to specific segments of the market where psychological factors, status signaling, or extreme economic constraints play a dominant role in purchasing decisions. It represents an exception to the general rule of price and demand interaction.
