tilavektori

Tilavektori is a term used in Finnish mathematical and technical literature to denote a vector that encodes the position of a point in a space relative to a chosen origin and basis. In an n-dimensional Euclidean space, a tilavektori is an element of R^n and can be written as v = (v1, v2, ..., vn). In three-dimensional space, it is commonly expressed as v = (x, y, z).

A tilavektori has the standard vector-space structure: it can be added to other tilavektorit and scaled by real numbers. Its magnitude, or length, is given by the Euclidean norm ||v|| = sqrt(v1^2 + v2^2 + ... + vn^2) in a Cartesian description. A unit tilavektori is obtained by dividing by its magnitude: u = v / ||v||. In an affine space, a tilavektori can be interpreted as a position vector from the origin to a point, while the difference between two tilavektorit represents the displacement between those points.

Transformations of tilavektorit are described by linear maps. If A is a linear transformation represented by a matrix, a tilavektori v is mapped to Av. Changing the coordinate basis affects the coordinates of v through a basis-change matrix, while the geometric location represented by the vector remains the same. Rotation and scaling are common linear transformations applied to tilavektorit in applications such as computer graphics and physics.

Tilavektori are used to specify positions of points in space, to describe displacements, and to perform geometric and physical calculations in fields such as engineering, robotics, and computer graphics.
