Telemetrije, or telemetry, is the science and technology of measuring physical quantities at a distance and transmitting the collected data to receiving equipment for monitoring, analysis, and control. It encompasses the end-to-end process from sensing to data presentation, and its purpose is to enable remote observation and decision making in environments where direct access is impractical or unsafe.

A telemetry system typically includes sensors or transducers that convert physical signals (such as temperature, pressure, speed, or vibration) into electrical signals, data acquisition and processing units, transmitters, communication channels, receivers, and software for data display, storage, and analysis. The workflow often involves sampling at a defined rate, digitizing signals, encoding data, and sending it through wired or wireless channels to a central monitoring station or cloud-based platform.

Transmission methods vary and can be wired (fiber, coaxial) or wireless (RF, satellite, cellular, radio mesh). Key considerations include data integrity, latency, bandwidth, power consumption, and security. Standards and protocols differ by application, with specialized domains such as space, aviation, and industrial automation using established guidelines to ensure interoperability and reliability.
