Tekstilfiltre, or textile filters, are filtration media composed of woven, knitted, or nonwoven fabrics used to remove particles from liquids or gases. They are implemented as filter bags, cartridges, or in flat- or pleated configurations within housings, depending on flow, pressure, and cleanliness requirements. Media selection is guided by pore size, chemical compatibility, and temperature tolerance.

Common textile filter materials include polyester, polypropylene, polyamide (nylon), and cellulose derivatives, in structures such as woven fabrics, nonwovens (spunbond, meltblown, felt), or reinforced configurations. Media can be treated or coated to modify surface properties, such as hydrophobicity or chemical resistance. Pore sizes typically range from sub-micron to several tens of microns, with design choices tailored to target contaminants and operating conditions.

Textile filters find use across many industries, including water and wastewater treatment, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemical processing, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and air filtration. They are employed for both sediment removal and clarification, as well as pre-filtration to protect more sensitive downstream equipment.

Advantages of textile filters include relatively high dirt-holding capacity, broad compatibility with varying flow rates, and the ability to implement in compact configurations with large filtration areas. Limitations involve temperature and chemical compatibility constraints, potential abrasion sensitivity, and disposal or recycling considerations for spent media.

Maintenance and operation depend on the specific media and process. Cleaning methods may include backwashing, chemical cleaning, or limited thermal cleaning where compatible. Replacement intervals hinge on contaminant load, operating conditions, and media type, with periodic integrity checks recommended to ensure filtration performance.
