Tazer, often spelled tazer, is a term used to refer to electroshock weapons, most commonly the TASER devices developed and marketed by Axon Enterprise. The name TASER originated as an acronym for Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle, and while TASER is a brand, “tazer” has become a common nonofficial spelling for these devices. In general usage, tazer can also describe other stun devices that deliver a high-voltage, low-current electrical discharge intended to temporarily incapacitate a person.
