If the target color space is not specified or understood, the colors in an image might appear differently when viewed on a device that uses a different color space.

Color management systems use this information to perform color transformations, often referred to as gamut mapping. This process ensures that colors from the source color space are translated as faithfully as possible into the destination color space, while respecting the limitations of the destination's color gamut.
