Tavoiteväriavaruudet, often translated as target color spaces or destination color spaces, are essential concepts in digital imaging and color management. They represent a standardized way of defining and reproducing colors. A color space describes a range of colors that can be represented or displayed by a particular device or system. When we talk about a target color space, we are referring to the intended color space for a piece of digital content, such as an image or video.

This target color space acts as a reference point. For example, an image might be created with the intention of being viewed on a standard sRGB monitor. In this case, sRGB would be the target color space. Understanding the target color space is crucial for ensuring that colors are displayed accurately across different devices and platforms. If the target color space is not specified or understood, the colors in an image might appear differently when viewed on a device that uses a different color space.

Color management systems use this information to perform color transformations, often referred to as gamut mapping. This process ensures that colors from the source color space are translated as faithfully as possible into the destination color space, while respecting the limitations of the destination's color gamut. Therefore, accurately defining and adhering to target color spaces is fundamental for maintaining visual consistency and achieving predictable color reproduction in digital media.
