Tarotkaarte, or Tarot cards, are a deck of cards used for divination or as a tool for self-reflection. A standard Tarot deck consists of 78 cards, divided into two main groups: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana comprises 22 cards, each depicting a significant life lesson or spiritual archetype, such as The Fool, The Magician, and The High Priestess. These cards are often seen as representing the overarching journey of life.

The Minor Arcana, numbering 56 cards, is further divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit contains ten numbered cards (Ace through Ten) and four court cards: Page, Knight, Queen, and King. These cards are generally interpreted as reflecting more everyday events, challenges, and situations. The suits are associated with different elements and aspects of life: Wands with creativity and action, Cups with emotions and relationships, Swords with intellect and conflict, and Pentacles with the material world and finances.

Tarot readings typically involve shuffling the deck and laying out cards in specific patterns called spreads. The position of each card within the spread, along with its imagery and symbolism, contributes to the interpretation of the reading. Different spreads are used for various purposes, such as exploring past influences, present circumstances, or potential future outcomes. While often associated with fortune-telling, many practitioners view Tarot as a system for gaining insight into oneself and understanding different perspectives on life's complexities.
