Tabloidal is an adjective relating to tabloids or to tabloid journalism. It can describe the physical format of a tabloid newspaper—a smaller, compact paper size—as well as the sensationalist, entertainment-oriented style commonly associated with tabloid media. The term derives from tabloid, which historically referred to a condensed, tablet-like form; the suffix -al yields an adjective.

In usage, tabloidal is often employed with a pejorative nuance. It is used to critique reporting that prioritizes sensational headlines, dramatic leads, scandal, crime, celebrity gossip, and human-interest stories at the expense of depth, context, or verification. Some writers contrast tabloidal presentation with established, traditional journalism, though some outlets deliberately adopt tabloidal aesthetics to broaden audience reach while attempting to maintain standards.

Tabloidal can also describe design and layout elements, such as bold typography, large photographs, and concise copy, which are intended to attract quick attention. Outside of journalism, the term may be used more loosely to indicate tabloid-like characteristics in other media, including magazines or digital content.

The word remains relatively specialized; many writers prefer phrases like tabloid journalism or sensationalism, and tabloidal as a descriptor is more common in critical or descriptive discussion than in routine reporting.
