Süvaveenides, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), is a medical condition characterized by the formation of a blood clot in one of the deep veins of the body, most commonly in the legs. These clots can obstruct blood flow and, if dislodged, can travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening condition.

The risk factors for developing süvaveenides are numerous and include prolonged periods of immobility, such as long flights or bed rest after surgery, major surgery, certain medical conditions like cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, smoking, and the use of hormone replacement therapy or oral contraceptives. Genetic predisposition can also play a role.

Symptoms of süvaveenides can vary, but often include swelling, pain, tenderness, and warmth in the affected limb. The skin may also appear discolored. However, it's important to note that some individuals may experience no symptoms at all.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, medical history, and diagnostic tests such as a Doppler ultrasound, which uses sound waves to visualize blood flow and identify clots. Other tests like venography or D-dimer blood tests may also be employed.

Treatment for süvaveenides primarily focuses on preventing the clot from growing larger and reducing the risk of pulmonary embolism. Anticoagulant medications, commonly known as blood thinners, are the cornerstone of treatment. In some cases, thrombolytic therapy, which dissolves clots, or surgical interventions may be considered. Compression stockings are often recommended to help manage swelling and reduce the risk of recurrence.
