surtitler
Surtitles are a form of text displayed during a live performance or film, typically a play, opera, or ballet, to convey the dialogue or lyrics to the audience in a language other than the original. They are most commonly used in opera and theater where productions are performed in a language that may not be understood by a significant portion of the audience. Surtitles are usually projected onto a screen above or in front of the stage, or sometimes onto the proscenium arch. They appear and disappear in sync with the spoken words or sung lines, allowing the audience to follow the narrative and emotional content of the performance.
The practice of surtitling has evolved over time, with early methods involving handwritten signs or chalkboards.
