Because “normal” is context dependent, subnormoterm signals a relative condition rather than an absolute value. As a result, subnormoterm can denote environmental temperatures lower than the usual operating range, body temperatures below an organism’s normothermic baseline, or process temperatures below a reference norm for a given system.
