Studiet is a fictional municipality located on the northern coast of Norland, a country often used in contemporary fiction. It sits along a sheltered inlet and is known for its maritime heritage, with a waterfront that serves as the town’s social and economic center.

The town covers about 28 square kilometers and features a sheltered harbor, low dunes, inland pine forests, and a hill rising to about 140 meters. The landscape supports a mix of residential areas, small farms, and maritime facilities, with scenery ranging from rocky shoreline to sheltered coves.

Studiet traces its origins to a 12th‑century fishing hamlet and received municipal rights in 1602. The harbor facilitated growth in the 18th and 19th centuries, with shipyards and wharves expanding during industrialization. In the modern era, redevelopment has balanced preservation of historical areas with new housing and services.

Today the economy blends traditional fishing with tourism, boatbuilding, and small-scale manufacturing. Local seafood, including cod and herring, remains a staple, while the waterfront hosts markets, eateries, and seasonal sailing events. The town accommodates visitors with guesthouses and a small marina.

Governance follows a mayor–council system. The council has 11 members, elected from districts, and the mayor chairs meetings. Local services include planning, waste management, cultural programming, and public safety.

Culture in Studiet centers on maritime heritage. The annual Festival of Masts features parades, music, and boat displays, attracting visitors from surrounding areas. A distinct local dialect and traditional crafts are preserved in the town center and museum.

Infrastructure emphasizes regional connectivity and coastal facilities. There is a regional road network and a small marina, but no rail link. Education includes one primary school and a secondary school, plus a public library and community center.
