Stonesis is a term sometimes used informally to describe the condition of having kidney stones. Kidney stones, also known medically as nephrolithiasis or renal lithiasis, are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys. They can affect any part of the urinary tract, from the kidneys to the bladder.

The formation of kidney stones is often linked to factors such as dehydration, diet, obesity, certain medical conditions, and family history. Symptoms can vary depending on the size and location of the stone. Small stones may pass through the urinary tract without causing any noticeable discomfort. However, larger stones can cause severe pain in the side and back, below the ribs, pain that radiates to the lower abdomen and groin, pain that comes in waves and fluctuates in intensity, pain or burning sensation when urinating, persistent need to urinate, urinating more frequently than usual, urine that is pink, red, or brown, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, nausea, and vomiting.

Treatment for kidney stones depends on their size, type, and the severity of symptoms. Small stones may be passed with increased fluid intake and pain medication. Larger stones might require medical procedures such as lithotripsy, which uses shock waves to break up the stones, or surgery to remove them. Prevention strategies typically involve drinking plenty of water, making dietary changes to reduce the risk of stone formation, and managing underlying medical conditions. The term "stonesis" is not a formal medical diagnosis but is generally understood to refer to the presence of kidney stones.
