Stålstrapping, or steel strapping, refers to metal bands used to secure loads during transport and storage. The strap is wound from a steel strip into a coil and applied around a load with a tensioning tool and a securing seal.

Materials include plain carbon steel, galvanized steel for corrosion resistance, and stainless steel for high-heat or aggressive environments. Galvanized straps are common for outdoor use; stainless straps withstand salt spray or chemicals.

Typical widths range from about 12 to 32 millimeters, with thicker gauges for heavy loads. The exact size depends on load weight and package shape. Straps can be supplied in bright or coated finishes and in continuous coils or cut-to-length.

Common applications include pallets, lumber bundles, metal coils, bricks and blocks, and general industrial packaging. Steel strapping is favored when high tensile strength and resistance to deformation are needed.

Installation involves placing the strap around the load, threading the free end into a tensioner, applying tension, and securing with a metal seal or clip. A compatible cutter is used to trim excess strap. Protective edge accessories may be used to reduce damage to the load.

Advantages include high strength, good performance with dense or heavy loads, and re-usability and recyclability of steel. Limitations include heavier weight, potential for edge damage to the load, and the need for powered tools and safety precautions during handling and cutting.

Standards and safety: manufacturers provide product data sheets; local standards govern packaging and load securement. Used straps are typically recycled as scrap steel.
