The Strengthening Responses to HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa through Research into Violence and Trafficking in Women and Girls (STRIVE) – South Africa component was initially based at the University of the Witwatersrand. However, it has since expanded to become the SADC Regional Centre of Excellence for Research on Women, HIV and AIDS (including TB). More commonly known as SADC-SRECO, it is now headquartered at the University of Botswana.

The Centre is dedicated to undertaking research in order to support the development and implementation of policies aimed at combating HIV/AIDS, TB, and other related health issues including violence against women and girls. SADC-SRECO aims to collaborate with southern African countries to strengthen their health education systems to meet the needs of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It also offers training and development opportunities to researchers and practitioners in southern Africa, ensuring the region is equipped to manage the crisis and develop its own health solutions.

In addition to its research and training, the SADC-SRECO Center works closely with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and other international partners to ensure that it is at the forefront of responding to the HIV pandemic in southern Africa. Moreover, it has a workshop series that is based on the use of innovative artistic approaches in order to bring research into the public realm. This interdisciplinary conference promotes the scholarly production of a wealth of highly engaging and meaningful research.

The key goal of SADC-SRECO's courses and workshops through consultation, training, studies, and other techniques of improvement-orientated deliberation can help both the political implementers, and the technical development managers to be more conversationally inspired, on a development particular motivations of abuse.
