Terminology and usage vary by industry. The term spool is common for smaller windings in textiles and consumer products, while reel or drum is often used for larger, continuous lengths of cable or wire. Spool design has evolved with packaging, manufacturing, and supply chains, reflecting a balance between protection, efficiency, and ease of handling.
