There are two main configurations: vented (ducted) models that exhaust air outdoors through ductwork, and non-ducted (recirculating) models that filter the air and return it to the kitchen.

Vented models require appropriate duct routing to the exterior and adherence to building codes, while recirculating models require space for filters and may have different noise and maintenance profiles. Electrical connections and switch or remote-control operation are typical features.

Maintenance is important for efficiency and safety. Grease filters should be cleaned regularly and replaced or cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If the unit uses charcoal filters, these will need periodic replacement. Regular inspection of seals, ducts, and the fan helps prevent grease buildup and reduces fire risk.
