Sordiseadustikku, also known as the Dust Mite, is a small, microscopic arachnid belonging to the family Pyroglyphidae. These creatures are commonly found in indoor environments, particularly in dust and on surfaces where dust accumulates. Dust mites are not true mites but rather belong to the order Sarcoptiformes, which includes other small arachnids. They are known for their role in allergic reactions and asthma, as their droppings and body fragments can trigger allergic responses in sensitive individuals.

Dust mites have a simple life cycle, consisting of four stages: egg, larva, protonymph, and deutonymph. The entire life cycle can be completed in about a month under optimal conditions. Adult dust mites are small, measuring approximately 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters in length. They are typically reddish-brown in color and have eight legs. Dust mites feed on dead skin cells, which they extract from their hosts, usually humans. They are most active at night and prefer warm, humid environments.

The presence of dust mites is often indicated by the presence of their droppings, which appear as small, dark specks in dust. Dust mites can be controlled through various methods, including regular cleaning, vacuuming, and the use of allergen-reducing products. However, complete eradication is often difficult due to their ability to survive in small cracks and crevices. Dust mites are not harmful to humans in terms of physical health, but their allergens can cause significant discomfort and health issues for those with allergies or respiratory conditions.
