Inspect for wear or damage and replace as needed. Never coat a soother with sugar, honey, or other sweet substances, and avoid attaching it to strings or ribbons that could pose a strangulation risk. Use should be supervised, and parents are advised to introduce a soother in consultation with breastfeeding plans, as prolonged use can affect feeding or dental development.

Use and regulation vary by country. Soothers are regulated as consumer child products in many regions, with standards addressing safety, labeling, and materials. Common regional terms include pacifier or “dodie,” and the item is generally marketed in a range of sizes to fit different ages. Many manufacturers now offer BPA-free and medically tested options.
